Marijuana as a medicine
Marijuana has been used as a medication for as far back as 8,000 years in China and has been grown commercially for at least that long. Today it is hard to find as many hemp products as there were in centuries past because patents and trademarks on synthetic fibers are more lucrative for manufacturers. Much the same can be said for medical marijuana which is only legally available according to the US Federal government in pill form under a synthetic cannabinoid called Dronabinol under the brand name Marinol which claims to offer the medicinal benefits of marijuana without the euphoric high and chemical side effects. The general effect of Marinol has been spotty with some patients not feeling high or euphoric and others feeling a stronger high than if they had smoked marijuana. These discrepancies in effect has made Marinol suspect in it’s ability to treat everyone equally.
